Fan mail is one thing, but fans you meet in person are a different matter entirely.  Everyone in show business has had the experience of the fan who is so excited at recognizing their favorite star, they say, "Oh my gosh, you're my biggest fan!"
  But then there is the one who seems to have a hard time separating the actor's work from reality.  Jackie had this experience at Toots Shor's restaurant with Peter Lorre.  A very excited lady spying them came rushing to their table,  Peter Lorre graciously stood up and she exclaimed, "Are you really this short?"
  "No indeed," Jackie put in.  "We only rushed out for a quick bite, so he left the rest of himself back at the hotel."
